Extreme heat wave can aggravate kidney diseases

New York: Experts have observed that if someone is suffering from any kidney disease, the condition may worsen in extreme heat and the patient may need to be rushed to the hospital as an emergency.

In this regard, scientists have noted about 11 million such incidents from New York state that occurred between 2005 and 2013 in which people were brought to the hospital in an emergency. Majority of them were kidney patients. These conditions included kidney stones, acute kidney injury, urinary tract infection (UTI) and other conditions.

The experts noticed that as temperatures increased and heat waves occurred, kidney emergencies also increased, indicating a link between hot weather and kidney disease. Medical experts have previously warned that heatwaves can exacerbate heart disease and cause patients to be hospitalized to the point of emergency.

The latest research has been published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. The summary of this is that increasing the normal heat can increase the kidney diseases or the severity of the disease of people surrounded by kidney problems. This includes everything from kidney stones to infections.

Experts have carefully studied this long data and after a careful review, they have said that the severity of kidney diseases increases in June, July and September as compared to May and September. In the light of research, experts have asked people suffering from kidney problems to take timely medicines and take care of themselves in the heat of summer.
