Portland: The park management in America is looking for a mysterious person who has cut down more than 700 trees and is still free from the law.
Police in the Gresham area of Portland, Oregon have dubbed the man a serial tree killer who has destroyed hundreds of trees for no apparent reason. To arrest him, the police and the local park administration have formed a task force, which has so far released thousands of photos of the felled trees so that the public can identify this ruthless person.
Cutting of trees has been going on in this area for the last one year. However, it has been known that more trees have been cut down with hand saws or axes along the trails around the Seventh Street Bridge and Tule Avenue.
Joe Welsh, an arborist and P&R manager at Gresham, said small blades have also been seen inside the trees. All the blades are very sharp and a tree can be cut in five to ten minutes which is also a very quick operation.
First one tree was felled in August 2021 but so far 500 to 750 healthy and large trees have been felled in thirteen months and now only the cut trunks remain. This is the reason why the police have now installed cameras in the entire park. But despite all these, the accused could not be arrested.
Apart from the trees, the ruthless loggers have also damaged valuable herbs and plants, causing thousands of dollars in losses.
